UPDATE AIR QUALITY INDEX

The Air Quality News is an idea initiated by the Green Innovation and Development Centre with the desire to share the most up-to-date information on the topic of air pollution to the community. You want to receive news on the topic of air pollution, sign up for the quarterly newsletter!

AIR QUALITY INDEX AQI is a daily air quality monitoring index first established by the US Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA). Other countries have also built this index for themselves, including Vietnam. The AQI index focuses on alerting the possibility of health effects within hours or days after inhaling contaminated air. To make it easier for people to understand, AQI is divided into 06 levels and health effects corresponding to each level.

Air quality monitoring

Measuring air quality is measuring PM 2.5 dust concentration and warning of air quality index (AQI) respectively, temperature, air humidity and CO2. Provide warnings about air pollution levels and tips for appropriate activities. Users update information on weather, air quality, pollution status in their place of residence, work agencies, etc. to have appropriate health protection measures.

PM 2.5 dust mask

PM 2.5 dust mask is a specially woven mask, the hole size in the filter membrane is 0.3 micrometer, PM 2.5 filter dust is removed. Usually should be used within 8 hours (continuous or intermittent), some types may have longer usage time (15 days with AQBlue mask) or washable for reuse (mask airphin) and some other types.

AIR PURIFIER

Air purifiers are devices that clean the air, remove micro-sized dirt and allergens in the air. Some products also have the ability to moisten the air, deodorizing brings a healthier space.

GROWING MORE GREEN PLANTS

Trees are a source of oxygen, can reduce indoor temperature and also an air filter. Some plants capable of filtering air should be grown indoors: ferns, gerberas, ornamental coconut, orchids, bamboo palm leaves, betel nuts, tiger blades, aloe vera, ….

Green traffic

Using public transport such as bus, BRT express bus, bicycle, subway,… contributes to reducing environmental pollution. It is possible to look up the most convenient route and time using the “Tim buyt” application on the phone.

Sustainable energy

Types of renewable energy include: solar, wind, rain, tide, waves and geothermal. The potential form of energy in Vietnam is solar, wind, biomass (from bagasse and corn). Equipment from this energy source can be used such as solar water heaters or rooftop solar power. Installation of solar roof power supply for households can reduce electricity bills.

10 FACTS ABOUT AIR POLLUTION ON WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

Nobody is safe from air pollution, the United Nations warned on World Environment Day, with nine out of 10 people on the planet now breathe polluted air.

This has led to a growing, global health crisis, which already causes about 7 million deaths per year, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

Burning fossil fuels for power, transport and industry is a major contributor to air pollution as well as the main source of planet-warming carbon emissions — and tackling both problems together could bring substantial benefits for public health.

AN EMPTY GUESTHOUSE FILLED WITH DUST NEAR VINH TAN THERMAL POWER PLANT

I am working as a maid at the big guesthouse in the hamlet. In the past, when the coal-fired power plant was still under construction, workers from all over the country gathered, and the demand for accommodation increased, as the price of housing also increased, many people in the village also built more rooms for rent at high prices. It is not a problem if you have money, but some of them chose to borrow money from the banks. The workers stayed there for a while, but once the construction was done, they moved away, and it has been left empty since then.
